Does this make me a selfish son?

I have asked my parents very nicely to let me

prepare my own meals. My doctor said I need

to lose 50 pounds, and stick to vegetables/fruits,

nuts and fish or else I'm at risk for liver-failure.

My parents don't want to work with me.

Whenever I say: "no, thank you. I'd rather make

my own food please."...mom gets hysterical,

starts throwing things, and acts like she's going

to disown me. Dad says I'm being very rude and

I'm not allowed to go to the market.

I feel I have done nothing wrong. Your thoughts?

I would sit your parents down and have a serious talk with them. You need to be firm and lay out your expectations of them. You need to do what is best for you and if they don’t change or listen to what you have to say, I would think about finding another place to live or talking to another relative about their behavior. I hope I helped. You are not selfish, they are being selfish by disregarding your needs.

If the doctor really has put you on such a restrictive diet, then you are an adult a and can move out.

How old are you? If you're a kid, your parents know the risks and will do what they can. If you're an adult living at home on your parents dime, you eat what they fix. If you need to lose weight, exercise.

Maybe your doctor should talk to your parents so they understand where you are coming from. And no I don't think you are selfish, you are asking to cook your own meals, selfish would be expecting your mother to.

Uh, your story doesn't add up. No doc would put an older teen/younger adult on such a restrictive diet unless their liver was in terrible shape. And if your liver was in that kind of shape, you'd be hospitalized for further testing.

I'm guessing your parents aren't cooperating because they don't believe you. Also, who pays for your food?

Talk to your doctor and ask the doctor to talk to your parents.

Somehow get your doctor to speak to them. Ask them if they want you to die.

You wouldn't want to be rude to your parents, even if it kills you.
