Our Validation Team undertook this phase of the Validation process through:

(1) In-depth review and marking up of the EITI Assessment by each team member

    "marking up" means to put comments and corrections on a document while reviewing it. the "marks" are the comments or corrections.

    Basically, each team member had to review and comment on each and every document before it could be finalized. This means that each team member had a say in the final document's actual contents.

    It means that whoever used "marking up" in this context is trying to sound impressive and can't use English properly. There was no need to use "up".

    mark-up = edit, they are writing proofreading marks, or notes, or comments on the EIS paper. when you write on something you make a mark on it
