The best thing to do is to find a dog of a particular type you are interested in and spend some time with it to see how you react. In my opinion anything with "doodle" in it is not good for allergies even though they are marketed as such. Labrador Retrievers and Bernese Mountain Dogs cause some people to have allergic reactions (more so than Poodles) so mixing it with a Poodle isn't going to solve your problems. For some people, the Poodle, Bichon Frise, Maltese, Yorkshire Terrier, Silky Terrier, and Shih Tzu can be good choices. If you have skin reactions to dogs (hives, itching), anything with short fine hairs can cause a problem - Chihuahuas, short-coated Dachshunds, Pugs, etc. So it's an individual thing, but some breeds may be better for you than others. Also depends on how badly you are affected. But dogs with "hair" as opposed to "fur" tend to do better with allergy sufferers.
