True or false ..... General Of the armies John Joseph Pershing never fought in the trenches of the great war?

I’m writing a movie called A rare kind of courage and it’s about the life of General Pershing .

The Americans entered the trench environment in 1917 with very little understanding of what awaited them. The Doughboys arrived in the front line trenches with French arms and untried commanders.

I'm not sure what you're asking. I doubt the general picked up a weapon and fought along side his troops. But he likely inspected them under trench conditions.

The answer has to be True. John Pershing was a Commander during the first world war, so he would not have been in the trenches waiting to go over the top like his men, he would be making battle plans etc.
