Consider a buffered solution. When the pH of the buffer system is equal to the pKa of the buffer, what is the ratio of acid to conjugate base in the solution?

    1 to 1.

    With equal concentrations, you get this:

    pH = pKa + log 1/1

    the log of 1 is zero, so

    pH = pKa
