KP is not going to reduce your premiums because you have decided to get a 2nd opinion outside of the KP managed care system. You can read your policy and it will state that in the policy.
- The only time KP will pay for care outside of the managed care system is in emergency care situations and if they have directed you to a outside provider (like their relationship with City of Hope). They aren't going to direct you outside the managed care system, they have plenty of gastro doctors in the LA area. As I told you before my friend found one he really likes in Downey.
If you don't like your doctors you selected at KP, you select some news ones.
And you work with the doctors like you would with any doctor - don't dictate the treatment to them, work with them to find out why they don't want to provide you the treatment you want and figure out alternatives that you are both interested in trying.
Back to the issue of KP:
I'm in LA County too. The most expensive Kaiser plan for a 55yo in my zip code is $750. Are you significantly older than that?
You have 6.5 months that you need to keep this insurance. In January, if you want choices in medical care, go with a PPO plan. Blue Shields HSA PPO is going to be more than 50% less expensive. This will allow you to see most doctors in the LA area without referral.
- Sure, you are self-funding the first $6000 or so in treatment costs, but you want major surgery and this will be used up with testing in a few days.
Also, when your buddies say they want a single payer system, remind them that it eliminates choices and causes treatment delays. KP and the Canada healthcare system are very similar - great for minor illnesses a pain in the booty for serious illnesses.
Do you participate in forums for people with the same condition as you? That is the best way to learn how to navigate with your doctors.
BTW - I don't know anything about your medical condition except the one liner you wrote in your previous question. But with almost all gastro conditions. You need to change your diet - no processed food, limiting oils and dding pumpkin to the diets. If you aren't doing this kind of stuff, I don't think any doctor is going to take you seriously.
