First, we do what we HAVE to do. Will your life be better and easier of you lose your job? Is it good for you to be weak and make excuses or is it better to learn to make yourself do stuff even when you don't want to.
AFTER we have done whatever we need to do for our survival (like earning a living), we have to prioritise all the other crap that happens in every life.
It is easy to be overwhelmed by the mass of 'stuff' that seems so impossible it clouds our mind. That's no good. We need to take control. We start to do this by writing it down ... just a list of everything we need to do. Once it is written down, we can get our head around it and work out which are most important and which really do not matter for now.
Once we have got our list of things we need to do, we sort them into order of importance. Some have to be done soon. Some can wait. Some will have benefits if we do them or bad penalties if we don't do them. Some really won't. Then we start working our way through the list, always dealing with the most important thing and not allowing ourselves any excuses until we have achieved it. Then we check on what the next highest priority is and start working on that. The list changes constantly as stuff happens in our lives.
The process never ends but it means WE are in control all the way so we never have to get too 'freaked' to function properly. It is about taking control and refusing to live like a victim. You could call it 'self empowerment' if you like. Really it is just part of becoming a mature, self-reliant adult.
