Is this person liable under this section of the Act?
Amelia becomes friends NZ scientist,Dave.After a month Amelia becomes close to Dave. She begins to sympathise with his views on the Australian government’s intention to eject all non-Australians from the Mawson base in Antarctica. Dave does not want this to happen, as all his research is based around the Mawson area. Amelia knows that a senior advisor to the minister is coming to visit the Mawson base in a few weeks. She tells Dave that she’ll help him. Amelia’s friend, Betty overhears this. Betty is supportive, but voices her worry that this might make Amelia contravene the Foreign Influence Transparency Scheme Act 2018 (Cth). Amelia brushes this off with a laugh.
A few weeks later, the advisor arrives and Amelia makes speech in favour of Dave personally and other non-Australians at Mawson base. This speech is made to the assembled population of the base. Immediately afterwards, her friend Betty, who happens to be a federal police officer as well as a marine biologist, arrests her for contravening section 57(3A) of the Foreign Influence Transparency Scheme Act 2018 (Cth).
Is amelia liable under SECTION 57 (3A) of the Foreign Influence Transparency Scheme Act 2018 (Cth)? I think she is, am i right?
