The opposition to abortion in the US was never defeated. The Supreme Court was out of line 46 years ago and they are out of line now. The state is tasked to uphold the right to life for all, not just those they deem fit their standard of humanity. It's about damn time nine people stop failing at their job if they don't want impeached.

@ Bill Maybe so, but it is all the preachers and pastors in the conservative states who will (from the pulpit) denounce conservative legislators if they are completely ignored

First realize that ALL of the new laws violate the Supreme Court decision on Roe verses Wade. NONE of the new laws are constitutional or enforceable.

I don't know why multiple states are suddenly passing anti-abortion laws when the legislators KNOW the laws will be struck down. It is possible it is happening right now because 2019 is > not < an election year and the legislators in conservative states are catering to the constant demands from the far religious right about abortion and prayer in schools. They know the laws will not stand and by 2020 the current furor will have abated. If yes. it is a win-win for the conservative legislators because they will have ensured the support of the religious right in 2020 while doing nothing that will cause any social harm.

Most (probably 80%) Americans accept abortion when it is done early in the pregnancy. That does not mean we think abortion is good, but the alternative of banning abortion is worse. We also don't accept the far-leftist position of wanting late-term and even "post birth" abortions to be seen as OK.

Most conservatives know the Republican Party does not give any real power to the far religious right, and passing these laws when they are guaranteed to be struck down is an example of how the RNC handles the religious nutcases. In contrast, the far-leftists are in control of the DNC. If the Democrats take both Houses of Congress and the Presidency in 2020 then the far-leftists really will try to implement their platform of crazy positions.

Yawn. I'm getting real sick of being called religious because I'm pro-life. Many pro-life people are not religious.

I think there is real concern among fiscal and social conservatives (and many moderates) that the so-called "progressive agenda" has spiraled out of control the past few decades and is only going to get worse before getting more sensible.

Consider this: Bill Clinton's 1996 views on abortion would be considered "right wing" today....Barack Obama's views on same-sex marriage in 2008 would be called "hate speech".

Since the 1970s so-called "liberals" have enthralled younger generations and outsider classes (many of whom of their own creation) by adopting increasing degrees of permissiveness....this has raised generations of kids that a) feel more than they think, b) watch TV more than they read and c) demand more than they produce ..

Look at Nancy Pelosi as an example....she became a powerful millionaire by pandering to hipsters and angry minorities. In 2005 she took a booming economy and renewed sense of national pride and turned it into a renewal of the angry, anti-war days of the late 60s...

She and her party profited greatly from all that anger...but guess what? Those angry kids are rising into positions of power....several of them are "new generation" Democrats like Tlaib, Omar and Ocasio-Cortez who won by running against Pelosi's establishment as they did a GOP rival...

Voters across the country see that the liberal old guard is desperately trying to hang on against their younger heirs... they also see the net result will likely be selling out even more to the "I want" generations or being toppled completely by them..

What do you do before a coming storm? You buy supplies and batten down the hatches...

What do you do (hopefully) during the good times? You put some away for the bad times you know are coming...

What do you do when you feel that a growing number of people are all too happy to dictate your values based on TV shows produced in two cities by companies owned by a small group of billionaires?

....at some point, the most-liberal person must find a place and say "this is who I am"... then, when threatened, be willing to draw a line around it and say "this line shall not be crossed"...

We conservatives are fed up with abortion. We have a president and state governments who support the right to life.
