Can you re-home an anthill?

There’s a specific part of my garden where I want to place an anthill. If I lob off a chunk of ants from an existing anthill and place it where I want it, will they build and anthill there?

That would take carefully digging up the entire hill being sure to get the queen in the process.

Think like transplanting a small tree. Depending on it age, it can go very deep and home to millions of ants.

If you just want a feral ant colony in your garden, perhaps invest in a starter colony, make a starter hole a few inches deep with a dowel and cover with an escape proof container. When the queen and workers establish their home, remove the container and should stay in your garden. Provide a little food and water for a while and presto, your garden formicarium.

Look up keeping ants and how to contain them without them dying.
