I'm assuming you have no teacher or you'd seek help from them but you don't tell us what you're learning from - a book for example?
Chords are an important part of learning to play guitar but there are many more things to learn.
I learnt from books(Bert Weedon's Play in a Day mainly)although an actual teacher would have been much, much better. I learnt chords, single-note melodies, simple reading, strumming, scales, how to hold the guitar and pick simultaneously. I began being very bad at all of those things but gradually became reasonable at them all. Later I added finger picking to my “skills” and learnt what might be called “music theory” including the basics of being able to extemporise.
It's like learning to drive, you don't begin by learning only one thing.
