There is no best airline. If you're in the US you might look up the worst airlines and avoid those if possible. Reasons for being bad are typically cramped seats (matters if you are tall/long legged), little to no drink or food service, charging for carry-ons and other previously basic services, and on-time rating. Those usually are your cheaper flights though so you if you're paying for it yourself you may need to balance the negatives with your pocketbook.
If an airline isn't near the bottom, then there won't be much difference. American, Delta, United are basically all the same.

I recommend Tiger air lines. Normally more excitement on there flights to watch.

I'm 23 never been on a plane before.
MILLIONS have never been on a plane.
I plan to fly soon . GOOD FOR YOU
I'm ridiculously anxious about it. Normal to be anxious about going off to some unknown to you place.
What's the best airline? For WHAT. The comfort of their seats.? The quality of meal service or they actually go from where you live to where you want to go?
To you want the bargain price and just want to get to destination or do you want the pampered extra cost travel way to et there.
Do you want the Airline that can guarantee the worlds weather? There is not one. Flights get cancelled, delayed or diverted by all of them.
Some fly from A to B frequently everyday and others might be just once or twice a week.
Did you want to see something other than clouds while on your plane ride.
You stress out over the he one that had a crash last week, last month or last year. Of course you also looked at the 3,000,000 flights that did not crash last month or the 50,000,000 around the world that did not crash last year.
ou can look at the one that a customer was nasty or a flight crew member was nasty. Of course the ten thousand other staff and millions of others passenger experience does not count.
The plane. A metal tube full of seat. You get on sit down and go for a ride to destination. It is a few hours of just getting there. a lot faster than walking or riding your bike. Not as comfortable as train ride but faster.
Is there any point in telling you Finn air is great if you are not going to Europe.
Seriously you are planing to go Miami, Mexico City .Tokyo,London, Seattle, Denver, Boise based only on the quality of Airline from your local Airport? Does that Airline go to desired destination? Or do just go to the limited places your selected Airline travels to?
Of course you are not anxious about what you will do at destination, where you will sleep, what the weather will be. Just the plane ride is your concern? Really hard to believe.
It is a big planet . You are having your First plane ride. Really does not matter the Airline it is your first experience all will be new to you.
The BEST cost more. What you can afford is what you can afford. You DO NOT get all the extras the Premium fare passengers pay for when you fly cheap.
It cannot be too horrible or all the Airlines would not be crowded everyday with millions of others going from here to there.
45,000,000 in the USA are afraid to fly. If you have a serious concern go see your DOCTOR.for more direction for your situation.
There are about 6.000 Airlines on the planet about 5,960 of them you have never heard of and probably will never fly on.
The best are really nice and really expensive.

The best for you is the one that has a seat for when you want to go at the price you can afford.
Not angry. Just a long answer to a generic question.
. Frequent flyers soon forget they too had their first flight full of confusion.
That it is familiar to you does not mean it cannot be totally baffling to the next person.

Might help if you told us where you're flying. All airlines don't fly everywhere.
If you're flying within North America, there isn't much to choose between airlines in terms of safety. After that consideration, we don't know what your idea of 'best' is in an airline

There is no 'best' airline, because everyone's opinion on what qualifies as 'best' is different. Some people look for low cost, others look for convenience, or ease of making reservations, others look at safety records, others look at additional in-flight features, etc. Since you know your anxiety is 'ridiculous' however, the best suggestion would be for you to find a flight that matches your schedule and budget regardless of which airline it is, and take that one. I personally like Jet Blue and Virgin America, which is now owned by Alaskan Airlines, but it all depends on where I'm flying. Keep in mind that flying is still much safer than driving.

Airlines really don't matter much any more unless you're traveling on an overseas flight.
Is you're in the US, most people just look for the least expensive flight. Service wise, most airlines offer barebones transit.
British Air, Aeroflot, Air France Turkish Air, Alitalia.
