Just a gimmick that'll be abandoned by the next phone generation I think.

It's really more of a feature to be able to charge compatible wireless headphones or a smart watch in a pinch. Otherwise I could see some rare circumstances where a friend or family member you are with might need a charge out of desperation assuming you have more than enough. Wireless charging is convenient, but inefficient since as much as 50% of the power being transferred is lost in the process. A portable battery with cable is the best way to charge your phone on the go.

It may be "less efficient" but who cares if it charges in the same or less amount of time (I can wirelessly charge my S9+ faster than my child's plugged in XR)

Some people would be desperate for power at some point. Assuming you are referring to reverse wireless charging I'd use it more for accessory charging like AirPods than phones.

Have you never been out somewhere and had your battery go dead?
