Yes, I have like 35,000 ancestors on my tree. It's freaking awesome. The DNA testing thing is okay, but it's the resources for building your tree and finding relations and ancestors that makes it better than most other companies in my opinion. The DNA test thing also makes me a little annoyed, since it got rid of some of my trace regions all of a sudden, which some I can understand as possibly noise, or misgrouped under the wrong ethnic region, but they also got rid of one in particular, that I feel like it cannot be erased. And I was using it to find relations on a particular side of my family, that was tending to get this very rare and unique ethnic group with essentially no admixture. So I am like, where did it go, what are you now grouping this ethnic group that your summary says has no admixture with any other DNA ethnic regions under now? Because if there's no admixture, then obviously, nothing can grouped under that... but now my trace of that is gone, and now it's disappeared under a bunch of the matches who previously showed it in their trace regions as well. Luckily I was putting little notes next to the matches that said they had it, so I still have a record of who had it previously, but moving forward, I probably won't be able to trace this back to find out where it came from. (It was Melanesia) I believe now it might have been Native American, based on that 2015 study, and because we do have a branch or two that have suspected Native American ancestors, but it never came up with that to begin with, so now I have nothing to trace this to... and although it also showed up on my FTDNA test under 'Oceania,' they don't let you see your matches' ethnic regions on there, so I can't search for others with it on there. I feel like others who have had this DNA ethnic group have all had the same complaints, but nobody gives us any answers. It's like they want to keep it a secret from us!
I am also pissed they just got rid of the mtDNA and Y-DNA. We had a relative get an mtDNA test and then they never did anything to enhance that tool, and then even worse, got rid of it. Luckily we had saved the information to our hard drive, so know what their results were, but have no way to transfer it to any other websites, and the person we got it from has since passed away... and it is on the same side as the mystery Melanesia DNA, so I am pissed about that too... it's like somebody really doesn't want us to know where this Melanesia is coming from.
But for their tree resources, they've done a pretty good job. I wish they'd add more state sources that haven't been added though, but they keep trying to add things in minority groups, which is cool for them I guess, but I'm not part of those groups, and for some reason, they haven't been updating their American state vital record databases as frequently as they used to, and so it's getting annoying doing the same searches and constantly getting the same results, for years now on some of my dead end lines. But other than these complaints, they've got a pretty good website for finding stuff. If you learn how to really use it, it's pretty awesome. I mean I have 35,000 people on my tree, so they are obviously doing something right.
