To add to this discussion. Medication, such as the synthetic hormone known as Synthroid, does have side effects. In some patients it can cause a multitude of problems if used over a long period of time. I am one such person, who after being on Synthroid for more than 20 years (at varying doses) is in complete thyroid failure. Despite seeing many doctors (endocrinologist, cardiologist, gastroenterologist, even a neurologist) no one can figure out why my body is rejecting (or failing to absorb) the Synthroid. We have already tried Armour and I became seriously ill on that as well. I do wonder if naturopathic methods would work better. So I am curious to hear what treatments are available that don't involve the use of synthetic hormones. If anyone has an answer to the OP's question, I would also be interested.
