Hey there, Most therapists find it a tremendous compliment if you fall asleep during a massage session. It indicates to us that you trust us, are truly relaxed and enjoying our touch, and are benefiting from the bodywork being performed on you. There are a few therapists out there who, for one reason or another, do not like it when their clients fall asleep. Some perceive it as a “boredom” reaction by their clients — that their work is so standard and blah that their clients are falling asleep because it does not feel good enough. One of my instructors I had while receiving my massage training was of the opinion that people who fell asleep were experiencing a natural bodily reaction of escape from an issue they needed to work through, and he would do things to wake his clients back up if he noticed they were falling asleep so that they were “forced” to work through the issues their body was trying to avoid.
