If you could customize Frosting Flavors on a Brownie, which would you like- Vanilla Buttercream Or Chocolate Buttercream?

A GOOD brownie needs no frosting. If you want to embellish a GOOD brownie a swirl of caramel or peanut butter into the batter is great.

Adding chocolate chips to the batter also acceptable as are nuts. But frosting is not necessary and in most cases covers the flavor of a good brownie. Now if your brownies are less than great a ganache would be perfect. A mixture of chocolate and hot cream, let the hot cream melt the chocolate then stir until smooth then let thicken a bit then pour over the brownies. This will amp up the chocolate and it is not overly sweet.

Thanks Nikki your critique is very accurately helpful and it was agreed that the frostings alone were overly sweet mainly, both detracted from the Brownie itself. Your Answers was very helpful.

I do not typically mix chocolate with vanilla or Chocolate on Chocolate, because there are so many other flavor choices. A raspberry flavor would be awesome, and so would a caramel flavor. But, in the spirit of answering the question, I would select the Vanilla Buttercream frosting because it will add more depth of flavor than a chocolate on chocolate brownie.

Thanks, I saw a recipe od Alton Browns, I'm going to try a brown butter cookie recipe sometime also. I'm going to split the frosting batch and add Cocoa, other half Vanilla.
