The heating element of an electric oven is designed to produce 3.4 kW of heat when connected to a 240-V source.

    P = V I = V^2 / R

    3.4E3 = 240^2 / R

    R = 17 ohm to two sig figs

    resistance R = V/I = V/(P/V) = V^2/P = 24^2/34 = 16.9 ohm

    1) Find the current...P/V = 3400/240 = 14.2 A.

    2) Resistance = V/I = 240/14.2 = 16.9 ohms.
