What language will the baby speak?
The father is English and does not speak a word of Spanish. The mother is from Central America and she does not speak English. When their newborn baby begins to talk what language will it speak?

Input --> Output. It just depends on how much interact the child encounters with Spanish or English language. Hopefully both parents are in the babies life, then the child will be able to pick up both languages easy.

A mixture of both. It will also depend on the language(s) used by people around the couple - do most people who talk often to the couple use English or Spanish? What is the general social atmosphere in their district?

The baby will speak whatever language or languages she hears around her.

If this hypothetical baby grows up in Japan and has no contact with it's parents, it will speak Japanese. Babies learn the language they hear.

It depends on who speaks to her the most.
If her father speaks English everyday to her she will learn English
If her mother speaks Spanish everyday to her she will learn Spanish
She will be quite clever enough to learn she can only speak English with her father and spanish with her mother. Both parents talking to her in their natives tongues equally she will learn both
Language is learnt not inherited. You can take a baby for anywhere and put in anywhere else and it will learn what it hears

Oddly enough I actually know someone whose father spoke only English and mother only Spanish. She grew up to speak English with only a little Spanish. I think was more because she grew up in the US than which parent spoke which.

I.e the parents cannot communicate thus the baby won't speak. But knowing babies he/she will speak both.

It depemds what language they speak to it...it might even grow up bilingual..a good thing.

If both parents are regularly speaking to the child, he or she will be bilingual. Otherwise, the child will speak the language of the parent who regularly cares for him or her.
