You need to practice daily - not just in the lesson, I taught Voice for over 30 years as part of my choral director position, and have taught flute since 1973. Practice is crucial - DAILY. Your teacher assigns you new skills to learn, and they can only be done by learning the proper habits that daily reinforcement brings. So get your family used to the fact that you need to practice - just respect their schedules, etc. And get YOURSELF accustomed to other people being around - most of whom, if you are in your own room, will not even care. My husband and I are career professional classical musicians, and there are two studios at opposite end of the house. When we are each practicing, doors closed, we can hear each other in the distance - when ONE of us is practicing, is might as well be the dishwasher or lawnmower running - we pay not attention UNLESS the other has asked us to listen for certain things. So enjoy your lessons, work hard, do well!
