He wasn't abdicated. He abdicated. "Abdicate" isn't a transitive verb, meaning it's not something done to someone. It's an action someone themselves takes that has no object.
Now, that said, 100%. Why? Because Edward VIII never had any children. Had he been allowed to marry Wallis Simpson and make her his Queen Consort and so not abdicate, it ultimately wouldn't have made a difference since they didn't have children. So, Elizabeth would've become Queen when he died in 1972, her first-born son would've been her heir, and his first-born son would've been his heir.
Now, if you want to pull at strings of causality and whether Prince William might not even ever existed because of his dad probably not ejaculating at the exact same moment into the exact same woman and so forth, I'm not playing that game. That's just stupidity.
