    My first thought was a poppy, but on second look at the leaves and the center of the flower, it looks like a tulip to me. A tulip that is about to lose it's pedals.

      I realize thats what they are, I just disagreed with the part where they are about to lose its petals since they just bloomed.

    I'd say that it is a kind of poppy but I've never seen a yellow poppy before. However it could be a type of buttercup.

    California Poppy. They can self seed anywhere

      California Poppies don't have dark centers, plus the foliage is wrong (poppy is more fernlike).

    It's definitely not a buttercup or a pansy. The leaves are wrong for both.
