Edina know why you would dial 911, was the dog rabid, vicious or attacking someone that you didn’t mention? Police are not there to track down your missing dog, they are there to take dog bite reports, stolen dogs (property) and if the dogs threatening someone, acting vicious and actively biting someone they will come out to protect the person and wait for animal control to deal with the dog.
Not sure why your dogs running away from you, something isn’t right, if he’s been out and running, basically missing, he returns home, sees you again and takes off somethings obviously wrong. I’ve had dogs run from my house, they make a mad dash around the neighborhood for about 5 minutes and return home when tired or thirsty. All I do is hold my hand out and call their name and they trot right up to me. Even my new dogs act the same.
You need to train your dog not to door dash, also if your yards fenced in and he escaped that way tech him to come to the door when he gets out. It takes a little time and effort but well worth it. In the mean time, post fliers with his picture and leave a little food out by your door for him so if he ones back he’s rewarded with food.
Meanwhile since he was in the area you could walk around the area and call him. Remember not to yell at him or sound angry or he will only run away again, keep telling him he’s a good boy etc and he should come to you.
