A Sportster is Not a: "Big Bike". They are Hapa Harley.Look at one. Narrow, skinney. If you must get one, get the 1200 or biggest engine you can. There is a Reason they are always for sale for far less than a Big Twin. Guys/gals buy them, think they now have a "Harley", get disappointed, and sell soon or trade-up.
If you are going for a Harley, IMHO, get at least a middle weight, a Dyna or Low Rider. Only 600 #, the Sporty is 500-odd lbs. Get biggest engine you can, a 96" or better. Possibly get used for $6,000, that's Nothing for a Real Harley. You Wont be disappointed.
I've ridden Triumph. Honda, XLCH, WLA; my CB650SC for 8 years. I tried my Dyna Knowing that I'd Love Her. I've wanted a Big Twin since I was 24. At 61, I indulged myself, and am Not looking back, Just MHO..
Triumph? I love the '78 Bonney. IDK about the new ones. I think I'd rather have my '78 back.
If I had the money and hadda choose, I'd get an Indian Chief. Why? Beautiful, full-size,100% US--Made. Still in business.
Not a Scout. They are excellent, fast. but again, small, and ugly. Not cute like the original Scouts. Look like a Vrod (Harley doesn't even make the VRod, anymore), or a poor attempt to look like Burty Munro's OHV 1920 Scout.
Victory, great machines, but, I don't like the looks of their motors. American made but no longer produced. A belt for a Victory is $400. For a Harley, $40.
EDIT: The truth hurts, I guess. An Opinion is not predicated by a phrase that is all inclusive and to preclude other views; like: " They Are boring..." This is as logical as :"Why does Everyone..."
Rather; " I Think..", or: " IMHO , they are...." That is logically acceptable. I'd even accept someone saying they hated something I loved, like a Maxim gun, that's OK, just don't try to outlaw them.
own '06 Dyna FXDL, had '78 T140V, '75 XLCH. also briefly a '47 WLA. rode '83 CB650SC 8 years. a 650 is really too small for freeway work.
