New 1970 VW bus (Transporter) that I kept for 15 years, sold it to my cousin for $100 while in good shape, running. Cost $2800 new, plus $400 interest. Had to rebuild the engine 3 times though. Typical for that vehicle that swallowed the #3 cylinder exhaust valve because of the oil cooler.

He wanted 30 bucks. That's what the junkyard was offering. All I had was 27 in my pocket. He took it. I loved that car.

Cheap and best does not compute.

I could tell you the cheapest or the best, they are not the same vehicle.

It was my first car, a 1949 Chevy. Paid 35 dollars for it when I was 15 years old. Reworked the engine in school auto shop. Kept it for years and years.

Bought a dirt cheap Honda Accord for just $900 at a dealership. It had over 200,000 miles with body/interior damage but engine ran great. I put 20k miles in a year taking it on numerous 500 mile desert trips without a single problem. Never left me stranded. Also got 40mpg. Wish I hadn't sold it!
