Why do some MLB pitchers wear a single digit on their uniform?

Update:

Do they think they're still in Little League? Very awkward.

    To me it doesn't matter the number Look pitchers wore single didgit uniform numbers in college so why not in the Majors?

    Baseball is not football where numbers need to be in a certain range by position.

    personal preference. some pitchers have even worn 0 as a number. i see nothing wrong with it.

    That's one of numbers available when they joined the team

    They're usually given their choice if there are several numbers available.
