The figure shows a jet engine suspended beneath the wing of an airplane. The weight of the engine is 11400 N and acts as shown in the figure. In flight the engine produces a thrust of 56000 N that is parallel to the ground. The rotational axis in the figure is perpendicular to the plane of the paper. With respect to this axis, find the magnitude of the torque due to (a) the weight and (b) the thrust.

Picture is quite fuzzy, so I'm guessing at the angle of the mount being 32° from vertical with an arm of 2.50 m

magnitude of the torque due to (a) the weight

τ = 11400(2.5sin32) = 15.1 kN•m

magnitude of the torque due to (b) the thrust.

τ = 56000(2.5cos32) = 119 kN•m
