Sudo is a program for Unix-like computer operating systems that allows users to run programs with the security privileges of another user, by default the superuser. It originally stood for "superuser do" as the older versions of sudo were designed to run commands only as the superuser.

So, it's really "switch user do"...but trying to tell anybody that today is probably like trying to tell someone what "hacker" really means.

sudo is an abbreviation of “super user do” and is a Linux command that allows programs to be executed as a super user (aka root user) or another user. It's basically the Linux/Mac equivalent of the runas command in Windows.

Interesting answers here. Never thought about the application of the word; here, all along, I thought it was Spanish for something you wear.

It's short for "sususudio." I could tell you what it means, but Phil Collins explains it best. You'll feel so good if you just say the word.

Perfect example...Go to the Philosophy section...there are plenty of pseudo-intellectuals there.

pseudo is generally used in one of two ways: to indicate a fake or imitation of a thing, or to indicate that the thing is an imperfect version of a thing, semi-real (partly real) but not truly real. Pseudonym would be a fake name whereas pseudo-logic means not really logic even if it tries to look like it.

Pseudo-something is generally used to say "nice try, but no" about a thing. It is a poor knock-off of a real thing and it doesn't take much to see how fake it really is. A cheap substitute or cheap imitation.
