The new Era name will be approved and officially announced by the Japanese government on April 1.

Edit: And now today April 1, it was announced that the name of its new imperial era, set to begin on 1 May, will be 令和 (hiragana: れいわ, rōmaji: "Reiwa"). It's name is made up of the two Kanji characters 令 ("Rei") meaning 'order' or 'command', and 和 ("Wa") meaning 'peace' or 'harmony'.

It is the first Japanese era name with characters that were taken from Japanese classical literature, instead of classic Chinese literature.
