God doesn't reward nations who worship him and punish nations who turn away from him. Greed has taken over the US because capitalism as an economic system makes it advantageous for individuals to behave in ways which are greedy. Luxury is currently something for the rich, so to obtain the luxuries of good education, healthy food, sports facilities, shelter with heating and plumbing etc. the only way to do it is to increase your own personal wealth. However in a system where luxuries are not private, but public, suddenly the only way to obtain better luxuries is not to hoard personal wealth, but to give increasing amounts into a public pot of money that can be spent on good public schools, community sports facilities, quality social housing, and nice healthy food.
There fundamentally isn't enough stuff in the world for everyone to have their own set of tennis courts and a private jet. So when luxury is private, it can only be enjoyed by a select group of people who obtain their wealth at the expense of others. However if luxury was public, there would be enough resources for everyone to enjoy tennis and speedy public transport, because no one needs ten tennis courts each. But because luxury is private, we are incentivized to compete for resources, rather than cooperate for them. If you have ever played some collective action games that involve game theory, you will very often find that working for your own personal gain is unsustainable and you will just end up hurting yourself in the long term. That is what is happening now under capitalism, because no one trusts that the public pot of money can really benefit anyone anymore. Whether they are right or not, lets hope this changes, and that people become trusting and kind enough to let go of their greed.
