This not the place for political discussions. However, Mueller was the INDEPENDENT counsel. That means he must be left alone to do his thing. Any discussion with Trump would have gotten Trump accused of tampering with the process. Trump had to stand back and let the witch hunt run its course. There were two forces at play: justice and politics. Justice tries to create a level playing ground without outside influence, but politics tries to damage your opponent without regard to truth or justice. Trump has won the justice side of the game and had to stay out of the way for it to conclude. The political side means that if he did anything to skew the results, an (already biased) press would have further crucified him in the media. He had to adhere to both forces to survive. Because the President is a "public figure" anyone can say anything, truthful or not and he can't sue them for libel or slander. You or I could sue people that said or published untrue things. That set of laws seems obsolete in my mind and needs fixing. But the media needs to be careful, because the Trump family is NOT a "public figure." So they have to watch that only speak the truth about them. The Trump family has enough money to tie the media in knots for years if they are defamatory for no reason about the family. When he leaves office the media will go broke settling slander suits from the family, you watch.
