Why are people so stunned when a religious terrorist attack happens?

Religions have been murdering each other for 1000s of years. Its how religion rolls. So why are people stunned with it when it happens nowadays

I like how you add "religious" terrorist attack, as if there's ever been any other kind.

You are correct, in college we were taught that nearly all hate crimes are committed by religious people. Religion teaches hate, the rest of us don't care.

Wars in the past were generally about the lack of resources and the desire not to share them and in the 21st century there should be more peaceful solutions. Just because someone believes different is not a reason to hurt others.

Religions don't fight. People with extreme religious and anti-religious views do. The apostles like Paul, Peter, etc has been jailed for the violence that their misguided followers committed against Rome which the apostles themselves condemned and never endorsed.

Edit: There are many variables on religious views. Some believe all religions are false and must be eliminated. Some believe all religions are false and that believers must keep their beliefs to themselves. Some believe their religion is the truth and must be enforced by any means. Some believe that their religion is the truth and must be preached, not enforced, with examples of good deeds. Should we just force anyone to abandon what they believe is the truth out of our lack of understanding of what the religion really teaches?

Terrorist attacks since 9/11 have largely been politically motivated, to use terror to get political power by violence (because peaceful means don't work for them.) It was the same with the vile Crusades. Land and power-grabs were being made by Muslims out to conquer the world. When the West (mainly Christian) stood up to try to stop them, it was all about political power. The religious element was certainly there, but the bottom line was who would control the political landscape, because once they got that, the religious aspect would follow.

Granted, it is horrific that people are terrorists in the name of their god. But that just goes to prove that their god is viewed by them as a terrorist who approves of his followers using terrorism to force their goals and beliefs on to others. And if they won't accept their politics and religion, they will decapitate them, or stone them to death, or shoot them, or blow them up with bombs.

The two World Wars used terrorism all the time. Political reasons were at back of them, however, not religious convictions. All wars use terrorism. Why should anybody be stunned when a terrorist group also claim religious excuses? It's all girst to the mill, for them. Truly, the children of the devil are clearly identified by that. Just thank God there are millions of Christians who never, ever use, or excuse, terrorism. They are not in any one political party, or any one denomination, however. But there are millions who would rather be killed than kill - who would rather preach the gospel of peace than the politics of terror. (You do realise, of course, that the one man who terrorised those Muslims in N.Z. was not a religious person - he was extreme right-wing, politically.)

Because in this day and age, with modern technology, education for all and fewer people allowing themselves to be brainwashed, perhaps we tend to believe that such inhuman, insane, uncivilised acts would no longer happen.

We've evolved in so many ways, and yet there are still some people ready to behave like primitive savages in the name of their so-called religions.

Bacause religous peoples are so hard and with deep faith..."O ye who believe! fight the unbelievers who gird you about, and let them find firmness in you: and know that Allah is with those who fear Him." (Quran)

Huh huh. I'm not. Huh huh. I'm stunned if like none of the religious people on here instantly come on here and start posting like "Was the guy who like killed all those people an atheist?" even after the dude like screamed "Allahu Akbar" before he did it. Or like he had on a cross around his neck and a bible in his hand while he was like planting a bomb under an abortion clinic huh huh. They're still like "he was an atheist, he wasn't really a (name of my religion / sect". I'm like pretty surprised if that doesn't happen within like two minutes of it being on the news. Huh huh.
