Is it rude to read people's thoughts?

Like sometimes I feel like I get people's thoughts and they make this face like, "OMG, can you hear me?" And I'm like omg I'm sorry and I stop. Am I making this up or do people really care if you can read their thoughts?

You're not reading their thoughts. You are guessing or imagining what they're thinking, but chances are your assumption is incorrect.

When you stare at the people, in trying to read their thoughts, they feel uncomfortable and pull a face.

You are not reading their thoughts.

All you did was make an outrageous statement.

You are not telepathic. You're merely observing behavior & body language, plus making reasonable assumptions based on your personal knowledge about them. Case in point, you wouldn't get diddly-squat trying to "read the mind" of a total stranger.
