Let me share a story...……
….. I had a Contender 410 pistol. I used it mostly for grouse and about never was able to nail one in flight. The ex-wife now, and I, are going down a trail and spot a small group or ptarmigan. Ptarmigan are a white bird with red meat..... I set up the compact video camera, and then hand it to her. I show her were to stand so the sun would be to her back and I begin to stalk to the birds. I don't get very close when they spook and take the air, I have one in my sights..... lead it a tiny bit, fire - and it folds and drops like a rock. Just fricken awesome. I turn around..... and she doesn't even have the camera up to her eye. I get the bird and ask her, why didn't you record it? She says, "I didn't think anyone could get that shot from that distance".
I sold that Contender and gave up on pistol hunting.
Although I do prefer to hunt with a female partner - nothing like snuggling on a cold night...…. all my nightmare stories are from hunting with a female partner. (Except for the current wife - girl can spot game a animal miles off like a damn eagle.. I would never have gotten my last caribou or moose without her spotting skills)
