When George Washington was fighting the Revolutionary War, he was visited by an angelic woman who told him about a future event in which the US would be invaded. In the following years, it was agreed that the civilian population would be able to defend themselves, and the Second Amendment was born. A few years ago, a man was attacked by six men armed with pistols while at home. He retrieved his AR-15 and shot 12 shots before the attackers decided to give up. The defender deliberately did not hit anyone, but relied on "supressive fire." When a "mass shooter" attacked a church during Sunday service, a neighbor got his AR-15 and when the attacker came through the doors of the church and went to his car to reload, the neighbor put one into the attackers side, wounding him badly enough that he drove only a few miles before crashing. The US Constitution, and supporting documents, says that men are required to possess rifles that are suitable for "military service."
