The Sabres will not. Rochester is losing the race for first overall in their division to Syracuse, but with a 15 point lead over the fifth place team and just 12 games left, they will make the playoffs. Next weekend will be crucial. If they can beat Cleveland and get a split with Toronto (both in Toronto), it will guarantee a playoff spot.
It will be another interesting Selection Sunday this year. Too many times in the past, the national critics said Boeheim's team didn't belong in the tournament, only to have them make a deep run. Including last year, when they had to play a 'First Four' play-in game and then made the Sweet 16, and in 2016, when they went to the Final Four - another team that was said didn't belong in the tournament.
Big wins against Duke AT Duke, Louisville and Clemson and strong showings in losses to North Carolina and twice to Duke, and a 10-8 record in the very tough ACC may not be enough this year to overcome bad losses to Georgia Tech and some non-conference games early. But I think they will squeeze in as a 10 seed.
