The ones that I've encountered tend to advertise several different and unrelated martial arts as being taught individually or as part of a conglomerated system, you'd see pasted across their windows and print ads "Karate" "Kung Fu" "Judo" "MMA" and the like. I guess they can catch more search traffic that way.
They also prey upon the uninitiated or ignorant, so a lot of history of their school's method(s) extends only as far as their head instructor or school lead. If anything beyond that is offered, it's text-book stuff and not personally related to the teachers of that particular location, perhaps even copied & pasted directly from a Google search.
From personal experience, I've found that they use language in their student guides/log books/curriculum outlines/etc. that references "magic" or "mysterious" abilities that students aren't privy to until they are of advanced rank, thereby having already paid thousands of dollars to get to that point. Any school that makes anything sound supernatural or unattainable otherwise is trash.
