Christians: If an atheist lives a life that is Christ-like (i.e. being kind, giving to charity), will he go to heaven in the afterlife?

Always curious about this. Thank you.

St Paul the Apostle in his letter to the Romans makes a distinction between the written law and the moral law on a person's heart(Romans 2:12-16). So this means even if someone isn't a Christian(an atheist lets say) if they follow the moral law written on their conscience, their conscience will vindicate them.

The current Pope gives an excellent interpretation of this by stating the following:

"Non-Christians, by God's gracious initiative, when they are faithful to their own consciences can live 'justified by the grace of God' and thus be 'associated to the paschal mystery of Jesus Christ'"_Pope Francis(Joy of the Gospel).

What the Pope is saying their is this. The moral law on a person's conscience calls them to righteousness. Christ demonstrated righteousness through his act of self sacrificial love. If someone demonstrates the same self sacrificial love and righteousness in their lives by following the moral law on their conscience, even if they aren't Christian(if they are agnostics, atheists, secular humanists, people of no faith) they participate in the righteousness Christ demonstrated on the cross and can achieve salvation.

    No.

That would be salvation by works. Being good is fine and dandy, but the only way to be saved is for Jesus to forgive your sins.

No. You have the mistaken belief that it is possible to be good enough to go to heaven. No one is good enough to go to heaven. We all deserve hell (Rom 6:23).

simple fact.... an atheist can not possibly live a Christ like life............ only those who come to The Creator God in The Way He prescribes will enter Heaven........ it is not possible for an atheist to come to God......

Christians literally think that born-again Christian Jeffrey Dahmer has a better chance of arriving in heaven.

If the works are done in the Holy Spirit--divine Love--those energies naturally draw the soul to where her love, her treasures, are.

An atheist claims to know "God is not," so that is an ego thing. Post-passing, the atheist must shed her anti-God, anti-Truth notions, and accept and love God and Christ, Truth--for such, Heaven rejoices.

Related: A good novella about post-passing events is "The Great Divorce" by C. S. Lewis.

p.s. God will have Mercy on whomever God decides; God knows the innermost intents and feelings, and how they evolved. Again, "good works," if done in the Spirit of Love, naturally draw the soul to God, who is divine Love.

No, living a so-called good life will not get anyone into heaven. This is because we have all sinned against God and our sins cause a great separation between us and God. But God loves us and wants to save us. That's why Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay for our sins and rose from the dead. If we will turn from our sins and ask Jesus to be our Savior and Lord, He will come into our heart, save us, forgive us, and give us eternal life. When we put our trust in Jesus, our sins are washed away and we are clothed in the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ, making us acceptable to God. The BIble says "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast" - Ephesians 2:8-9. www.peacewithgod.net

Good works alone cannot grant paradise, it is the mercy of God that allows paradise. Paradise is too valuable, priceless. And God gives His mercy to anyone He wants. Forgives anyone He wants.

    not christian.

Christianity: If Hitler asked for forgiveness he would be in their heaven. If the nicest person in the world didn't, they would be in their hell.

Christianity is based on cult belief. One must believe in the cult fantasy to go to their fantasy heaven.

If Hitler was drowning and grabbed s life preserver he would have been rescued. If the nicest person in the world refused to grab the life preserver, he/she would drown.

You don’t get to Heaven by being good, no one is good but God and you should know that if you’re a Christian

<Morals come from the Bible> No they don't--that's daft. Religion takes its morals from humanity. The Bible approves of slavery, a practice I hope you find abhorrent, because the people of the time engaged in it. There's no clearer example than that, but there are others.
