Do you imagine Westerns, Romance, Horror, and Sci-Fi ever coming back into vogue in comic books? Or is the comic book a dead medium?

It's basically a dead medium. But it's going to be awhile before it actually dies. If you look through indie press you can find all of those genres and more in comics books. Comics are just 'sequential art' for telling a story. Comics will live on, probably online. Marvel, DC, and others will likely become online published works exclusively in the future. So the comic BOOK is dying, but not COMICS.

But the superhero genre dominates the industry. This happened for a combination of reasons from the crusades of Dr. Wertham, the unique economics of the comics industry in the 50s and 60s, and some short-sighted business decisions that lead to them becoming a narrow boutique industry.

Comic books died when they stopped being intrigue and intelligent and because political propaganda.

All of those genres still exist in comics.

Even within the more popular superhero genre, those exist as subgenres.

I can imagine all manner of things. But that doesn't make any of it reality. None can predict the future.
