# Why doesn't time just stand still on the North and South Pole?

If time zones are related to distance and degrees, and that you could walk a circle around all time zones from the poles, that would mean that the time at the equator goes slowest and at the poles there's no time at all. Now quantum theory suggests that if you negate gravity you negate time. So that would tell us gravity breaks down too.

That would mean the Admundson station on the South Pole is a FAKE. Same with the Rocky Station up North.

Any setting on a clock at the pole will be arbitrary, but the clock will function, and in summer, the sun will slowly circle you in the south.

The turning of the Earth is not the only way to recognize the passage of time. ANY movement is sufficient to notice that time has passed.

The reason is that the earth spins at a particular frequency.Hence after each spin, time increases one notch.

The rotational speed at different latitude location on the globe is determined by the following equation;

V / lambda= Fq,Where V is the orbital speed of a mass at that particular latitude, Lambda is the radius of the orbit,Fq is the frequency of rotation as measured by an observer.

When the orbit velocity of the earth relative to the Sun changes the spin Velocity of the Earth also changes accordingly.

Hence the globe angular velocity is quasi constant which follows the mass change of the Earth. if one is standing one meter radius from the pole he would have to wait 24 hour to return to the same position

Hence position and time are related..

Negative time means there is a relativity like the time in California is minus 3 hours that of time in NY. How ever the period of the earth stills remains the same comparatively.

Time is also related to the orbit of the Earth around the Sun.

Time zones depend on Sun rise and Sun set. From one Sun Rise to second Sun rise is 24 hours at the equator. Nothing to do what and where you are. Time is set for convenience. Quantum theory is a mathematical method. Objects may not obey quantum mechanics. Gravity breaks down is when the equation can not be solved, like that near the black hole. The two stations are there. You can visit them. What you get in all the books are related to how to study the nature. But nature does not care for us. So do not get confused with the words. Check it with the dictionary and get the meaning. Scientists have a habit of making and faking the observation with theor interpretation. Do not mix them.

nice argument. time doesn't care how we measure it though.

For the sake of preventing us all to move there ^_-

No clock at the North Pole, so no measuring of time. So time just stands still.

At South Pole, there is a research station. It has plenty of clocks that measure time. So no standing still there.

I bet Santa has 24 clocks at his workshop. And he has to know when it is December 24th.

OMG, I just had to compliment you on the deep question. I hope someone mega smart answers it, so I can know the answer too!!!!!

Speaking of FAKE... there is a rumour that someone by the moniker of KnightWilliam is not actually trying to ask legitimate questions. Just trying to be a Troll. If you know this guy you might want to have a word to him about good manners.

Of course not being an idiot he would know that time zones have nothing whatsoever to do with time.

They are a human convenience so that we all start work in the morning ( when the sun rises ) and finish in the evening ( when the sun sets)

But given that for half the year the sun does not rise and the other half it does not set at the poles then this human convenience serves no real purpose at all.
