    Ehhh, yes and no.

Trump made most of his money in real estate, and alot of it came from making some very risky moves in NYC before NYC recovered it's mojo that could have been horrifically bad. Even with that, he's declared bankruptcy multiple times.

He likes to tell a fairy tale about getting just one million dollar loan from his father, but it's a bald-faced lie...he got hundreds of millions including multiple bailouts from his father. We also know that he benefitted immensely from his father's political ties that allowed him to fast track permitting when other developers couldn't. He's even got some mob ties...which i don't blame him for. You HAD to deal with the mob in the 1970s and 1980s NYC development environment because the mod controlled the unions.

It's worth pointing out that in terms of complexity, real estate is just about the simplest business you can run. This isn't like running Exxon or Microsoft or Ford with a billion moving parts and complex global supply chains. He has a reputation for a bizarre mixture of near neglect of some aspects of his business, and yet micromanaging others.

Now, ultimately, while his net worth is likely quite a bit smaller than his claimed $6 billion, he's clearly a very wealthy guy, and has shown a penchant for getting back up off the mat after a loss. He definitely deserves some kudos. But he's no business genius. He's just a guy who had ALOT of good fortune and was good enough to not blow those advantages.

He went bankrupt 6 times, including bankrupting a CASINO. No, he is not a good businessman. He takes other peoples' money and runs away from debt rather than paying it honestly. He is a buffoon, and I'm being kind in my wording there.

I would think so. People who see his success as undeserved go two ways: one where he ripped everyone off to be rich, and two where he was just extremely lucky.

Account one: If he did rip people off, then he was still a good businessman. Business and morality are two separate things. This means he would not be honest or good, but objectively a good businessman. I mean the guy's President of the U.S.

Account two: If this was so, Trump would like not be were he is today. He was a good businessman due to that he used his family ties to his advantage and learn from others falls. He is not the best however, as he has made mistakes.

Overall: Yes, but he has his flaws. If you are famous and say one thing as a normal person (e.g. Napoleon saying "Hey my ***#a!" to Mussolini) then the media will blow it up to proportions of: Trump Hates Foreigners! In short, he made mistakes and he has made good business, but because his wins outnumber his loses, he would still be considered a good businessman

He managed to turn $100M into $4500M according to Forbes. If he was a bad businessman, he was at least extremely lucky.

Not according to this guy: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2018/feb/04/alex-...

By all accounts, Trump ripped people off. That's not a good businessman in my book.

He's no Bill Gates or Richard Branson. They know that part of business isn't just making money but how you use that money to make people's lives better.
