Back when we were kids, we traveled from NJ to NY to see our grandparents often. Us six kids kept busy with a pen and paper, looking for vanity license plates, which we wrote down. The one who spotted the highest number of vanity plates by the time we reached out destination, won a candy bar. We also played the alphabet game, calling out the ABC's as we saw the letters in words on billboards or if it was the first letter on a license plate. We also would, as a group, try to seek out license plates from other states and talk about what we learned about those states. I know that sounds so lame in today's day and age, but we did not have video games or cell phones then. Howsoever, it did pass the travel time quite well and quickly.
