    $105.

In the simplest terms, 5:3 is dividing something into 8 parts, 5+3.

    So you divide $168 by 8 = 21

    Multiply 5 x 21 = $105

    3 x 21 = $63

    $105 + $63 = $168

Since the ratio is 5:3, which is a total of 8 parts, divide 168 by 8. When you get the answer to that, tim has 5 times the answer, and matthew has 3 times the answer.

    8* / 168 = 21

    21 x 5 = Tim gets 105

    21 x 3 = Matthew 63.

    *I got 8 by doing 5 + 3
