Would a red onion taste better in the steamer with vegetables or a white onion?

I personally use white and yellow to cook with and save the red for raw food dishes myself, but that's me. Yellow onion is the jack of all trades onion that is really good steamed, fried, in soups, stews, whatever. Just a suggestion :)

Red will lose it's color and look kind of grey after being cooked - go with white - flavor will not be much difference between the two.

Red onions vary-they can be rather sharp and somewhat mild. And they Could 'run' in their color. So I would rather use a yellow or white onion.

  • A white one.

    Red tastes better raw.

Either should be fine, but if you have something later that can use raw onion, like a salad or hamburger, then save the red one for that.
