I live nearby, since 1973. We have tried all the public transit, and rarely use it - even with senior discounts. Nobody would do this as a commute, realistically. You are adding 5 hours minimum to your day; either taking the bus from Kingston, the MetroNorth train from Poughkeepsie, or the Amtrak train from Rhinecliff. Driving is no better, and actually more expensive. Yes, there are Park and Ride lots - one in New Paltz, for example - but unless you can telecommute, and only go into the physical NYC office maybe 2-3 times a week TOPS - this is not for you. When we drive, we have certain parking places that we are members of, and accumulate points for discounts and free stays - we use those most often at airports, or to attend shows and concerts, or if the Knicks actually had a TEAM again, for MSG.. But for someone to ask if they can do this DAILY????? I know folks who did, years ago - but it is crazier every day, and this will be a nightmare for you.
