Does corruption destroy a country?

I am asking this because Pakistan's previous prime minister was so corrupt. He only used to care about himself. He didn't care about Pakistan. No matter how much problem the country is facing. No matter how much theft or robbery or murdery is happening. No matter how much the country is polluted. He only cared about money and wealth. That is why the country is so polluted and messed up. Does corruption cause this?

Well it certainly doesn't help. Pakistan ranks 116 out of 176 on the corruption index. And you've got other problems: terrorism, women get treated as 2nd class citizens, limited education, etc.

Pakistan has had a serious problem with this since partition. Imho, the country would have been better off as a monarchy headed by the Aga Khan with a separate anti-corruption police reporting directly to him [and his heirs in the usual male line of succession].
