Since you were once anorexic, I suspect that you may see yourself as having more fat on your body than how others see you. Ashley, all women have a natural layer of subcutaneous fat that men don't. That's why most women have a softer outline with more gentle curves than men. It's also something men find attractive. When you see a woman with well defined muscles like those you sometimes see in body competitions, the chances are pretty good that they're using anabolic steroids to enhance their musculature. Of course, since you didn't tell us your height or weight I can't comment upon whether you should lose weight or not, but I'd be really worried, given your history, of telling you to diet. Although there are variables that affect your body mass index (BMI), it's a pretty good indication of whether you have a healthy weight. Look it up and use it to OBJECTIVELY determine whether you need to lose weight, and try to forget about your muscles not being as defined as a man's. I've been working out for most of my life, in fact I'll be going to the gym as soon as I finish this answer. I will tell you I've seen several women who I admire working out in the gym I go to who are exceptionally strong and if you were to look at them you'd never know it. They do look superficially soft. that is they look that way until they lift something. Then the muscles underneath that thin layer of fat stand out and they look tremendous! Just one final comment. Carbohydrates have gotten a bad rep and protein is over rated. Too much protein is bad for your liver and kidneys and there are as many calories in a gram of protein as there are in a gram of carbohydrate. Eat a balanced diet and keep working out! It may seem tough, but the benefits are tremendous and there's no physical activity that does your body more good than a program of progressive weight training combined with ~ 30 minutes of aerobics. Just three hours a week can keep you in shape after you've gotten there. I know of no other activity or sport that can achieve the same result with so little sacrifice of time.
