Memorial Day is 1 July in Newfoundland, to honour veterans, and those who died. However, as they joined Canada, and 1 July is Canada Day, they really don't celebrate it much anymore.
There is no Vetran's Day.
There is, however, Remembrance Day, where we remember those who gave their lives in war. That is this Sunday, November 11th - and will be the 100th anniversary of the ending of WWI. Many honour veterans on this day as well, but, the true intent is to honour the war dead.

Memorial Day was to honor the people who fought in the War Between the States*; Veterans' Day was to honor the veterans of WWI. Both got stretched to honor all veterans.
I refuse to call it the Civil War; war is not civil.
