Regardless how well it looks and drives, get it checked out by a mechanic, usually 50-100 bucks depending where you go. Only times I got screwed with private party used cars were ones I didn’t have checked out. Even if u decide to buy from dealer or even if the seller is a mechanic himself, still have another mechanic check out the car. Bought a car from my own mechanic once figuring he wouldn’t screw me and lost my $ because needed a too expensive repair. U can’t trust anybody, even If u know the seller personally, could be something wrong with the car they don’t even know about. A seller that won’t let you take the car to have it looked at by a mechanic could have something to hide. I’ve seen people selling used cars with leaking gas lines, everything. Plus when the mechanic tells you what’s wrong with the car and gives you written estimate how much it will cost to get any issues repaired, you can Show it to the seller and use it as a negotiating tool to get them down on the price.
