People also used to smoke cigarettes and drink while pregnant and drive in cars with out seatbelts. Doesn't mean what they did in the past was right or without heir risks. Your question is enormous -- how do I raise a child? Sounds like you had your child as a teen. At a high level, my recommendation would be, give it lots of love, put it first, work on yourself so you can be your best self and be happy (happy mommy, happy baby), read parenting books. No one is perfect. I waited until I was older to have my children and I adore them, but I make mistakes and, when I do, I apologize and let my kids know and we work together to figure it out. If your question is how to raise a baby, I did not have the TV on ever, I read to them a lot, I carried them everywhere (let them see and touch lots of things - kids are full of wonder) and gave them a lot of one on one attention (I read that the more attention you give them as babies, the more secure and independent they will grow up to become). As far as sleeping goes, I slept on a recliner with my newborns on my chest for the 1st month and then they moved to a crib where I read to them until they fell asleep. They slept in those little sack PJs where their legs are together and their arms go through sleeves. I believe, when they were newborns we had a triangle cushion that kept them tilted on their sides so they didn't have SIDS. Do your best, that's the best you can do!
